How People Are Making a Living with CryptoKitties Breeding Digital Cats
When I enrolled in college, I picked a major based on a career I wanted to have in the future. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined digital metaverses would exist by 2021. How could anyone have predicted that gaming could be a career? It definitely existed while I was in college. However, not many people believed it was a sustainable choice. I know this post is a little out of the ordinary for The Last Pigment, but I felt I would cover it, because it involves creativity.
In 2021, gaming presents a whole new way of making a living. With decentralized finance many games emerged such as Decentraland, Cryptokitties, and Axie Infinity. Digital worlds provide what the real world cannot, infinite possibilities. You can buy or sell land. You can purchase rare artifacts. You can battle characters and collect them. There are so many possibilities. Similar to what World of Warcraft provided with the auction and rare artifacts, these games have capitalized on decentralized finance to build a more sustainable and valuable system. Personally, I disliked the way World of Warcraft operated with their own coin. Spending fiat currency for a hypothetical currency never made sense to me. Dedicated gamers for WOW used the system to buy items. Yet, Cryptokitties and decentraland are approaching this space in a whole new way. These artifacts, NFT’s and other items, are linked to DeFi which can be transferred back into dollars or any fiat currency. Players can materialize their game time into actual money, and some are making more than $500 a day gaming.
One of the most unique ideas I have seen yet is the game called Cryptokitties. With an already growing base of users who are breeding digital cats, exotic, rare, and unique, this game allows you to sell your cats for Ethereum. How does it work? You spend ETH to purchase a cat, then breed it with another cat, and have kittens. Breeders are selected based on the cats traits called cattributes that you want your cat to end up with. Cats range in price from a mere $15, similar to purchasing characters, boosters and other gear in WOW, to a whopping 500ETC a whopping $1,000,000 USD.
The question begs, “Who is buying digital cats for $1,000,000?” After purchasing the cat, can you put it into a digital house? There are so many questions that result from this information. If being a breeder in real life made you a living, it wasn’t as much as digital cats can rake in. If you happen to be a breeder, you should think about tapping into the digital space.
What do you think? Will this game be the next big thing in the cryptospace, or will it be overshadowed by a Metaverse. Let me know down below. In case you want to send me a free cat, I’m PetitFlorals on CryptoKitties. Also, I think I’ll stick with the watercolor art space for now and continue with my Youtube channel in the mean time.
